REO Speedwagon announced on September 16, 2024, that it would cease touring as a band effective January 1, 2025. Its statement cited differences between singer Kevin Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall, against the backdrop of Hall’s recovery from back surgery and questions about his readiness to perform.
What did REO Speedwagon mean by “irreconcilable differences”?
The band’s management said differences had arisen between Cronin and Hall. The announcement did not detail the nature of those differences beyond discussing Hall’s recovery and his ability to return to the road. It is therefore safest to treat “irreconcilable differences” as a description of the dispute, not as proof of a more specific private motive.

In its September 16, 2024, statement, REO Speedwagon Management said Hall had undergone back surgery and had intended to return to touring. According to the statement, he had not yet returned to the performance level fans expected. The announcement then said: “So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025.” Read the band’s statement.
When did the touring cessation take effect?
The announcement was made September 16, 2024, and named January 1, 2025, as the effective date. The Los Angeles Times reported the news the following day, providing contemporaneous coverage of the announcement and its context. Read the Los Angeles Times report.

Did all REO Speedwagon-related touring end?
The announcement concerned REO Speedwagon ceasing touring under the band’s name. It did not say that the members would stop making music or performing in every capacity.
Kevin Cronin’s official project biography describes the Kevin Cronin Band as his touring project, and official Kevin Cronin Band news describes 2025 performances of REO Speedwagon’s Hi Infidelity in full. That is evidence of later touring by a project under Cronin’s name, not evidence that REO Speedwagon itself resumed touring. See Cronin’s official biography and Kevin Cronin Band news.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is REO Speedwagon touring now?
The available official REO Speedwagon band page lists Cronin and Hall, but a member listing is not a tour schedule and does not establish that the band has reunited on the road. The official material cited here likewise does not establish current touring activity under the REO Speedwagon name. View the official band page.
The careful answer is that REO Speedwagon announced an end to its touring effective January 1, 2025, while Cronin’s separate official project material documents subsequent activity under the Kevin Cronin Band name. Those are distinct claims; the latter should not be mistaken for confirmation of a REO Speedwagon touring reunion.
