Follow-up reporting described the situation as WWE not renewing his contract at expiration. The departure was brief: he returned at Money in the Bank on June 7, and a May 29, 2026 report said he had later signed a new WWE deal.
What happened when R-Truth announced his WWE departure?
Ron Killings, known to WWE audiences as R-Truth, posted his announcement on social media on June 1, 2025. Forbes reproduced his message: “Im sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride, Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years. Thank you.” Forbes marked the post “[sic].” Forbes, June 1, 2025
At the time, the news surprised some observers because R-Truth’s long-running comedic persona had led people to wonder whether the post was a joke. Forbes also reported that his last match before the announcement was a loss to JC Mateo on the preceding Friday’s SmackDown.
Was R-Truth fired, or was his contract not renewed?
“Released” was Killings’s own public wording. Follow-up coverage, citing Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, said WWE was not renewing his contract when it expired. That distinction matters: the reporting described a departure at the end of a contract, not an independently documented immediate termination notice from WWE. F4W/WON
