For Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’s 25th anniversary theatrical return in 2024, AMC reportedly offered a limited-edition R2-D2 popcorn bucket. A U.S. news report tied the collectible to a large drink-and-popcorn combo priced at $49.99; that figure was for the combo, not a verified standalone bucket price. Current availability is unconfirmed.
What was the R2-D2 popcorn bucket?
NJ.com reported that AMC offered an upgraded, limited-edition R2-D2 popcorn bucket during the May 2024 anniversary screenings, including the AMC Empire 25 marathon. The report is the evidence for AMC’s offer; Lucasfilm’s official rerelease announcement did not mention the bucket. The reporting does not establish a complete theater-by-theater rollout map.
The reported $49.99 price covered a large drink and popcorn combo associated with the bucket. It should not be read as the price of the vessel alone. The report and official sources reviewed do not establish the bucket’s dimensions, materials, accessories, care instructions, manufacturer, or remaining stock.
When did the anniversary screenings happen?
StarWars.com announced that The Phantom Menace returned to cinemas beginning May 3, 2024, for its 25th anniversary. The film originally opened in theaters on May 19, 1999. The anniversary screenings also included an exclusive look at The Acolyte.

D23 described the rerelease as a limited-time theatrical event. Its coverage also mentioned a May 4 Skywalker Saga marathon and Disney Parks merchandise; those park items were separate from AMC’s reported theater bucket.
Is the bucket still available?
Current availability, resale prices, and seller authenticity have not been verified. The bucket was reported as a limited 2024 theater offer, so a listing found later should not be assumed to be official or in stock without checking its seller, item details, and provenance. The available sources do not confirm that the bucket is currently purchasable.

How does it differ from other anniversary collectibles?
Lucasfilm’s April 8, 2024 anniversary merchandise guide featured other collectibles, including a Funko Pop! collection, a Darth Maul Legacy lightsaber hilt collector’s set, and Hasbro’s The Phantom Menace Retro Collection multipack. These were separate products, not parts of AMC’s reported popcorn-bucket offer.
For collectors comparing options, the key distinctions are the release and movie tie-in, the retailer or theater chain, whether the item is a popcorn vessel or a display collectible, and the provenance of any current seller. Official anniversary figures and a lightsaber hilt serve different collecting purposes from a theater concession vessel.

How does it fit AMC’s collectible-bucket history?
TIME’s 2024 feature discussed an earlier AMC R2-D2 concession vessel associated with The Rise of Skywalker, not the 2024 Phantom Menace item. TIME reported that the earlier vessel sold for $50 each. It also reported AMC’s $54 million in collectible concession-vessel revenue in 2023, a chain-wide figure rather than sales of this bucket. Those details provide industry context, but they do not establish demand or sales for the 2024 release.
