In a video released for Maggie’s 30th anniversary, Camilla spoke with the cancer-support charity’s chief executive, Laura Lee, about learning of the King’s diagnosis before it was made public. Associated Press reported on August 19, 2026, that Camilla recalled finding it difficult to keep the news private during a visit to a cancer-support centre.
AP reported her saying, “Nobody could say anything at that time. That was quite difficult,” and, “I almost said something but, you know, I felt that it wasn’t the time say.” These are AP’s renderings of brief remarks from the video, not a complete transcript.
AP also reported Camilla’s comments about her husband’s response: “Look at my husband, nothing stopped him,” and, “He just said, ‘This is my way. I’m going to cope with it.’” The remarks describe the King’s experience and Camilla’s recollection; they are not an update about her own health.

Chest infection and initial rest
On November 6, 2024, ABC News Australia reported that Buckingham Palace said Camilla had a chest infection. Her doctors advised a short period of rest, and she withdrew from scheduled engagements.
Lingering symptoms later that month
After a busy week of engagements, Camilla withdrew from the Royal Variety Performance. AP reported on November 22, 2024, that Buckingham Palace attributed the decision to “lingering post-viral symptoms” and said doctors advised her to “prioritize sufficient rest.” King Charles attended the performance as planned.
