Karamo Brown said he and Queer Eye co-star Antoni Porowski had an “extreme amount of conflict” during Season 1 and did not speak to each other while filming. Brown also said they kept their work focused on the show’s featured participants. Those details are Brown’s account; the reporting does not establish that Porowski independently confirmed them.
What Brown said happened during Season 1
In remarks reported by E! News, Brown described a serious breakdown in communication with Porowski, the show’s food and wine expert. “We did not talk to each other at all during season 1, even though we were shooting together,” Brown said. E! published its account on March 11, 2020, covering Brown’s interview with E!’s Just the Sip; coverage of the remarks had also appeared in May 2019. E! News’ report presents the conflict as Brown described it.
Brown said the tension did not become the focus while cameras were rolling: “On camera, it was always about that person and about creating something successful, so that was genuine.” By “that person,” he meant the participant whose life the Fab Five were working to improve in each episode. His account therefore distinguishes their off-camera relationship from the professionalism he said they maintained on the show.
Why did Karamo and Antoni have conflict?
Brown attributed the communication breakdown partly to an unnamed third party. The E! report does not identify that person, include their response, or independently verify Brown’s explanation. There is not enough in the reported account to say who the person was or to establish a definitive cause.

Did Antoni Porowski confirm Brown’s account?
The reports cited here do not establish a matching public account from Porowski confirming or correcting Brown’s description of their Season 1 relationship. That does not prove Porowski never addressed it elsewhere; it means the specific claims about not speaking and the conflict’s cause should remain attributed to Brown rather than presented as a jointly confirmed account.
How later Queer Eye cast tensions fit in
A June 2, 2026 E! report covered Brown’s later comments about a divide involving the broader cast. The same report included a production-side statement disputing a characterization that concerns raised during production were ignored or allowed to continue unchecked. That later coverage concerns a wider cast dispute; it does not independently settle what caused the earlier Brown–Porowski conflict.

E! reported Brown’s comments in the context of an interview during the promotional tour for his 2019 memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope. The book is relevant as context for the interview, not as a book specifically about Porowski or their conflict.
