Reports in late August 2025 said YouTube had removed the ability to scroll down to comments and video details while watching in fullscreen. But YouTube’s desktop Help page, checked October 8, 2026, still describes that scrolling as available. The conflict means the change should not be described as a universal, current removal: viewers’ experience may differ, and the available sources do not explain why.
What fullscreen scrolling let viewers do
When available, scrolling down while a YouTube video was fullscreen let viewers see comments and videos that were up next without first leaving fullscreen. Viewers also said they used it to check details such as upload dates, like videos, and manage video information. YouTube’s desktop Help instructions continue to describe scrolling down to view comments and upcoming videos, then scrolling back up to hide the page and show only the video.
That convenience was not universal in its appeal. Some participants in the discussion welcomed fullscreen as a video-only view, while others said they had scrolled away from the video accidentally. Those are individual reactions, not evidence of how common either preference is.
What the 2025 reports said—and what remains unclear
On August 30, 2025, users in a Reddit discussion reported that scrolling down in fullscreen no longer revealed comments and recommendations. The thread reproduced a YouTube support response saying the feature was unavailable and that comments and other video information were restricted to regular viewing mode. PiunikaWeb quoted the same statement in its September 3, 2025 report.

“Unfortunately, the feature that allowed users to scroll down and view comments in full-screen mode on YouTube is now unavailable. This change was implemented by YouTube, so it’s not a bug or an issue with your browser or device.”
This is a support statement reproduced in a Reddit post and quoted by PiunikaWeb—not a dated official product announcement. The sources do not identify the support representative, establish whether the Help page is outdated, show whether availability varied by account or rollout, or confirm whether the interface changed again after the reports. Accordingly, the 2025 reports document a real user concern, but do not establish that fullscreen scrolling is absent for everyone today.

What to try if you cannot scroll in fullscreen
Exit fullscreen to use the page
If scrolling does not work in your current YouTube experience, exit fullscreen and use the standard viewing page to reach comments, descriptions, and related videos. This is the simplest option and does not require installing anything.
Consider a browser extension cautiously
Marketplace listings describe extensions intended to restore fullscreen scrolling, but those descriptions are developer claims rather than independent compatibility tests. Check the current listing before installing: confirm browser support, update date, stated compatibility with YouTube’s current interface, permissions, and reported limitations.

Evaluate the reported uBlock Origin filter
PiunikaWeb’s September 2025 article describes a filter workaround for uBlock Origin. The article warns that YouTube interface changes could make it temporary, so treat it as a dated workaround rather than a guaranteed or permanent fix. Review the instructions and caveat in the original report before deciding whether to try it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why viewers disagree about the change
The disagreement is about what fullscreen should prioritize. For viewers who want to glance at comments or details without interrupting playback, scrolling offers convenience. For viewers who want an uncluttered, video-only screen—or who have accidentally scrolled away from the video—removing page content can feel like an improvement. The discussion records both reactions, but offers no reliable count of affected viewers or of either preference.
