1. Baby Reindeer: psychological drama about stalking and trauma
Written by and starring Richard Gadd, this dark-comedy miniseries is adapted from his one-man stage play and based on true events, according to T3. It follows a struggling London comedian and a woman he serves who becomes dangerously obsessed with him. Abuse, trauma and stalking are central themes, so this is the most psychologically intense pick on the list. T3 reported that all seven episodes were on Netflix at the time of publication.
2. Presumed Innocent: courtroom suspicion with a personal stake
A Chicago prosecutor finds himself the main suspect in the killing of a colleague with whom he had a relationship. Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard star; David E. Kelley is the creator. T3 reported an eight-episode run and Apple TV+ as the service at publication. Its article describes the series as inspired by Scott Turow’s 1990 film, but does not establish the precise adaptation relationship, so that connection should not be read more specifically.

3. The Gentlemen: inheritance collides with a criminal business
Guy Ritchie’s crime-comedy premise begins when Eddie Horniman inherits an estate and discovers a cannabis business operating there. The appeal is the collision between family inheritance and an existing criminal enterprise, rather than a conventional investigation. T3 reported eight episodes on Netflix when its article appeared. Its mention of a possible second season airing as late as 2026 was a prediction made in December 2024, not a current status update.
4. Sweetpea: a comic crime story driven by anger
Rhiannon is a young woman who has been bullied and dismissed; after her father dies, her anger begins to escalate. T3 describes Sweetpea as an eight-part comedy crime drama based on a book of the same name. It reported NOW TV and Sky as viewing options and said a second series had been commissioned at the time. Those service and season details are publication-era information.

5. Slow Horses: MI5 outsiders in a neglected department
Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, Slow Horses follows MI5 agents whose career mistakes have sent them to a neglected department. Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas are among its stars. Its spy-work setting and flawed team make it a different kind of crime drama from a courtroom or murder investigation. T3 reported four seasons available on Apple TV+ and a fifth confirmed in December 2024; neither statement establishes the current season count or regional catalogue.
6. Bad Monkey: a severed arm starts a darkly comic investigation
Vince Vaughn plays Andrew Yancy, a former police detective now inspecting restaurants. When a tourist discovers a severed arm, Yancy is drawn into a murder investigation involving corruption. T3 reported a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, without giving a verification date or methodology; treat it as a figure reported in that article, not a current score. T3 also named Apple TV+ and reported a second season confirmed at publication.

7. Day of the Jackal: an assassin pursued across an intelligence operation
Eddie Redmayne plays an assassin pursued by Bianca Pullman, played by Lashana Lynch, whom T3 identifies as working for MI6. The series is based on Frederick Forsyth’s book, making it the clearest choice here for a classic assassin-and-pursuit setup. T3 named NOW TV and Sky as viewing options in December 2024; availability may differ now and by region.
How to choose among the seven
- For psychological intensity and a story centered on stalking and trauma, choose Baby Reindeer.
- For courtroom suspense and a suspect inside the justice system, choose Presumed Innocent.
- For crime mixed with family inheritance and comedy, try The Gentlemen.
- For a comic premise built around a bullied woman’s escalating anger, try Sweetpea.
- For spy drama about sidelined intelligence agents, choose Slow Horses.
- For a darkly comic murder investigation, choose Bad Monkey.
- For an assassin thriller, choose Day of the Jackal.
If you want to continue from screen to page, T3 identifies Day of the Jackal as based on Frederick Forsyth’s book, Slow Horses as based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, and Sweetpea as based on a book of the same name. Check the exact title and edition before buying.
