Enchanting, the stage name of rapper Channing Nicole Larry, died at 26 in June 2024. Her family said at the time that her cause of death had not been determined. In August, HipHopDX and XXL reported that the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office attributed her death to the toxic effects of oxycodone and benzodiazepines and classified it as accidental.
What happened, and when was the cause of death reported?
The chronology matters: early overdose reports were unconfirmed, and the family’s first public statement did not identify a cause. The later medical examiner finding was reported by news outlets in August 2024.

- Before her death: HipHopDX reported that Enchanting’s sister had said she was in intensive care. HipHopDX’s June report covered the family’s confirmation of her death.
- June 13, 2024: In a statement reported June 17, her family asked for privacy and said, “The cause of death has not yet been determined.” The statement was attributed to her family, not to a named individual. HipHopDX published the family statement.
- August 2024: HipHopDX reported on August 24, and XXL reported August 23 and updated its story August 30, that the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office found the toxic effects of oxycodone and benzodiazepines caused her death and classified it as accidental. HipHopDX’s August report and XXL’s report attribute the determination to the office.
The underlying medical examiner case record is not reproduced in those reports, so the finding here is attributed to the outlets’ reporting rather than presented as an independently reviewed record. The June statement and August reports are not contradictory: they describe what was known at different points.
