The report, published by AOL on 25 August 2025, attributes the story to Hello! rather than to a direct statement from Camilla or an official palace announcement.
What was reported about Queen Camilla and a palace library?
AOL reported on 25 August 2025 that Camilla was reportedly pushing to add a library to Buckingham Palace as part of its long-running renovation. The story attributed the claim to Hello!; it did not cite a direct statement from Camilla or the Royal Household. AOL’s report therefore establishes that the proposal was reported, not that it was formally made or approved.
The official Royal Household pages reviewed describe Buckingham Palace and its renovation, but do not confirm a library proposal. Whether Camilla or the Royal Household has formally proposed or approved one, and what it might involve, remains unverified.
What is Buckingham Palace used for?
Buckingham Palace is both the sovereign’s official London residence and the Monarch’s administrative headquarters. The Royal Household describes it as “the administrative headquarters of the Monarch,” underscoring that the palace is not simply a private home. The Royal Household’s palace page lists 775 rooms:

How does the library story relate to the renovation?
The palace’s reservicing project is focused on essential building systems. The Royal Household says it replaces electrical cabling, plumbing and heating wing by wing, allowing the palace to remain operational during the work. Its 2018 account said some services had not been updated since shortly after the Second World War and needed a complete overhaul to help prevent long-term damage to the building and its contents. The Royal Household’s project account gave 2027 as the expected completion year. That is the target published in 2018, not independent confirmation of the project’s current status.
The library claim is linked in the reporting to the renovation, but the official project description does not identify a library as part of the work. The reported idea should therefore be kept distinct from the documented program of replacing building services.
