At the time, Osborne said the injury had left him bedridden and unable to work, drive or stand for more than a few minutes. The campaign also coincided with his having to miss Yomi Ship’s first European and UK tour.
What happened to Nick Osborne?
PerthNow reported on 2 August 2024 that Osborne, then 29, had been diagnosed with a severe herniated disc. Osborne was a self-employed drum teacher and part-time disability carer, according to that report. He described how the injury affected his daily life: “I have been left bedridden, unable to work, drive a car, or even stand for a few minutes at a time ever since”. The quotation was attributed to Osborne by PerthNow; it describes his condition at that time, not a current medical update. PerthNow’s 2 August 2024 report provides the account.
What was the fundraiser for?
Osborne said the campaign would help cover surgery and rehabilitation. PerthNow quoted him: “I am seeking to raise funds to pay for surgery to correct a herniated disk in my lower back and for subsequent rehabilitation.” The fundraising purpose was therefore medical treatment and recovery, rather than band expenses.
Why did Osborne miss Yomi Ship’s European tour?
The injury prevented Osborne from joining Yomi Ship’s first international tour through Europe and the UK, which followed the band’s debut album. Yomi Ship is a Perth instrumental psychedelic and progressive rock trio, with Osborne on drums, according to the band’s official website. A later local report, published on 22 August 2024, said the group toured Europe with fill-in drummer Alex O’Toole. Your Local Examiner’s 22 August 2024 account reported on the tour.
