What order should I watch the Paranormal Activity movies in?
Choose release order if this is your first time through the series. It keeps the prequels in the order viewers first saw them, so the story’s reveals arrive as intended. The list below includes all seven feature films, with years rather than day-level dates where a uniform primary-source schedule is not established.

The sequence differs from story chronology because the second and third films are prequels. Paramount described Paranormal Activity 2 as a prequel to the original and promoted Paranormal Activity 3 as a prequel as well. What is the chronological order of Paranormal Activity?
For the connected original story, use this broad film-level order. It sorts films by their main story events, not every scene or piece of footage; entries can reach across different periods.

Where does Next of Kin fit?
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021) is the seventh film in release order, but do not slot it into the connected original chronology as though its position were established. Paramount calls it an “altogether different experience” on its film page. It premiered on Paramount+ on October 29, 2021, according to the Paramount+ release announcement. Should I watch Paranormal Activity in release order?
Yes, if you are new to the series. Release order preserves the order of the reveals, while chronology is useful when revisiting the connected story and prioritizing when its events happen. You can switch to the chronological list for a second pass without changing which films belong to the original run.

The U.S. opening for Paranormal Activity 2 was October 21, 2010, and The Ghost Dimension opened theatrically in the U.S. on October 23, 2015. These dates do not establish a complete day-by-day schedule for every film or release dates in other territories.
