Alternates Jason Treul and Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu took their places. The identities of the contestants who were removed have not been disclosed in the cited coverage.
Why were two Survivor 49 contestants removed?
Probst, the show’s host, showrunner, and executive producer, told TV Insider that the pair continued breaking the no-talking rule after being warned. He said casting contacted him about the warnings, then called again while he was discussing the situation with the executive team.
Probst described the conduct as “blatant disrespect for the casting team.” The decision was made about 12 hours before filming was scheduled to begin, according to TV Insider’s September 3, 2025 report.
Who replaced them?
Alternates Jason Treul and Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu were told they would compete instead. Parade reported that it was the first time in Survivor history that two individual alternates entered together to replace two cast members.

Were contestants allowed to talk before the game?
No. The cast was sequestered in Fiji before filming and was not allowed to speak with other players. TV Insider reported that contestants were monitored to prevent pre-game interaction. Probst told Parade, “We do have rules, and they have to be respected, and if they’re not, we will take action.”

What about claims of other pre-game communication?
In a later report, finalist Sage Ahrens-Nichols alleged that other cast members also broke pre-game communication rules. TV Insider reported her allegation; it is separate from Probst’s production-confirmed explanation for the two removals and does not establish that production found those other cast members violated rules.
