Prince Harry was already leaving the Court of Appeal courtroom during a break on April 9, 2025, when a woman in the public gallery shouted first in support of him and then at members of the press. The incident took place during the second day of his appeal over the UK security arrangements applied to him; available reporting does not say the outburst caused him to leave.
What happened in the courtroom
As Harry passed out of the courtroom for a break, a woman in the public gallery shouted, “I support you Prince Harry,” according to The Daily Beast. She then directed a remark at the press. The BBC reported her words as: “If you’re members of the press, you’re the reason he’s not in England.”
The accounts describe Harry as leaving when the shouting occurred. They do not establish that the woman’s remarks prompted his departure, that he was formally removed, or that the court treated the moment as a security incident. The woman was not identified in these reports, and they do not establish her motive or whether she faced any formal consequence.
Why Prince Harry was in court
The incident occurred during The Duke of Sussex v Secretary of State for the Home Department, a Court of Appeal hearing held on April 8 and 9, 2025. The appeal concerned the level of publicly funded personal protective security provided to Harry in Great Britain after his change in royal status. The court listing says the decision he challenged was communicated in a letter dated February 28, 2020. See the Court of Appeal case record.

Harry’s legal team argued that the decision-making process had treated him unfairly and had not followed the relevant assessment process. The Associated Press described the argument as alleging that the panel had failed to follow its process and carry out a risk-management assessment. Those were arguments made for Harry, not findings by the court.
