The two-home claim was reported, not officially confirmed. On October 27, 2025, The Daily Beast said Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was reportedly seeking two houses in connection with leaving Royal Lodge; its account also said his camp described the idea as King Charles’s. Neither the report nor later official statements establish that two homes were offered or agreed.
What did the 2025 report claim?
The Daily Beast reported on October 27, 2025, that Andrew—identified in its headline as Prince Andrew—reportedly wanted two homes as part of arrangements connected with leaving Royal Lodge. The article relied on attributed accounts, including unnamed sources. It did not establish a signed agreement or an official offer. The Daily Beast’s report framed the question of who proposed the arrangement as disputed: it said Andrew’s camp suggested the idea had come from King Charles.
That is not enough to conclude that Andrew demanded two houses, that Charles offered them, or that either man agreed to such an arrangement. No named official or named source in the cited reporting confirms the two-home claim.
What did the Palace confirm?
On October 17, 2025, Andrew said he would stop using his title and honours, while maintaining that he denied the accusations against him. His statement, published by The Royal Family, said: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.” It also said: “As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.” These remarks addressed titles and accusations, not a two-home arrangement.

A Palace statement reported by The Daily Beast on October 30 said formal notice had been served to surrender the Royal Lodge lease and that Andrew would move to alternative private accommodation. It did not say that two houses would be provided. The official lease-related announcement therefore confirms a move and lease surrender notice, not the reported housing terms.
What does the lease record say about Royal Lodge?
The National Audit Office’s June 2026 review describes Royal Lodge as a Crown Estate lease and sets out the lease’s financial terms. It says the original arrangement included a £7.5 million renovation commitment, which reduced the capital premium payment to £1 million, and resulted in peppercorn rent. Those figures describe the lease terms; they are not a current market valuation.

The NAO also discusses early surrender and possible compensation. Assuming a surrender date of October 30, 2026, it gives a conditional estimate of £301,967.66, subject to the property’s condition and dilapidation costs. This is an estimate tied to an assumed date and condition, not a final payment. The NAO expressly describes its review as factual and says it does not assess value for money. In a separate development reported by the Associated Press on October 8, 2026, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor appeared in a High Court hearing challenging search warrants. AP reported that he had been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released under investigation, and that he had neither been charged nor exonerated. This later legal matter does not establish anything about the 2025 housing report. Read the Associated Press report.

What can be concluded about the two-home claim?
- The two-home detail originated as attributed reporting by The Daily Beast on October 27, 2025; it is not an official finding or confirmed agreement.
- The report presented competing attribution about who proposed the idea, including Andrew’s camp’s account that it came from King Charles. The available statements do not resolve that dispute.
- The Palace’s reported October 30 statement addressed surrendering the Royal Lodge lease and moving to alternative private accommodation, without confirming two homes.
- The NAO review adds factual context about lease terms and possible early-surrender compensation, but does not verify the two-home claim or assess whether the lease was good value.
