In 2018, Pornhub-related coverage reported that searches for “Fortnite” on the platform rose 834% between September 2017 and March 2018. That was a historical platform-search comparison—not a count of Fortnite players, a measure of the general public, or a current trend report.
What did the 834% figure measure?
The 834% figure described the reported change in Fortnite-related searches on Pornhub across a multi-month period, from September 2017 to March 2018. Contemporaneous coverage attributed the figure to Pornhub Insights; the underlying platform analytics were not independently audited in the coverage available here. VentureBeat’s March 2018 report covered the trend, while CyberSport.ru also reported on the platform’s figures.

In everyday terms, an 834% increase means the later search measure was 9.34 times the earlier measure—not 834 times as large. The figure is about search activity on one adult site, not how many people played Fortnite or how many searches occurred across the internet.
How was that different from the 824% peak?
The 834% and 824% figures refer to separate comparisons. The 834% figure described the broader September 2017–March 2018 rise; the 824% figure was reported as a distinct peak-day increase around March 18, 2018. They should not be combined or treated as two estimates of the same time window. VentureBeat’s coverage reported the peak-day figure.

What was happening around the spike?
Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode had been introduced in September 2017, and the game’s visibility grew rapidly in the months that followed. Reporting associated the sharp March movement with the widely covered session in which streamer Ninja played Fortnite with Drake. That timing provides context, but it does not establish that the celebrity session caused the full multi-month rise—or even explain all of the one-day movement.
What does the data say about Fortnite players?
It says something about Pornhub users’ searches, not about Fortnite players as a whole. The platform-specific figures do not establish users’ ages, motives, or whether they also played Fortnite. They cannot support conclusions about minors, all gamers, or society generally.

Other reported comparisons are similarly limited to Pornhub. CyberSport.ru said men were proportionately 136% more likely than women to search the Fortnite term on the platform. ComicBook.com reported that iOS users were 77% more likely than Android users to search it. These are platform-specific comparisons, not population-wide findings; the reported summaries do not provide enough denominator detail to turn them into broader demographic conclusions. CyberSport.ru and ComicBook.com reported those comparisons.

No. It was a separate observation tied to Fortnite’s April 11, 2018 server outage. A 2019 research letter reported that searches using “Fortnite” on Pornhub increased 60% during the outage, while the share of gamers accessing the site increased 10%. The first figure concerns keyword searches; the second concerns the share of gamers accessing Pornhub. Neither is the 834% September-to-March comparison. The 2019 letter in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction discusses the outage data and cautions that such statistics require careful interpretation.

The outage figures are an ecological observation: they describe activity at the platform level during a specific event. They do not prove that a typical gamer replaced gameplay with pornography when the servers went offline. The letter’s authors put it plainly: “Caution is necessary when interpreting these statistics.”

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
