A 21-year-old clerk was fatally stabbed at Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO in Ikebukuro on March 26, 2026, and the male suspect later died as well, according to contemporary reporting. The store closed temporarily after the attack. A July report announced a planned reopening, but it does not confirm the store’s current status.
What happened at Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO?
The stabbing took place on March 26, 2026, at Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO, inside the Sunshine City commercial complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. NTV reported that police identified the victim as a 21-year-old female clerk. The Associated Press and NTV reported that the male suspect stabbed himself and that both were later pronounced dead. NTV’s report and the Associated Press report describe the deaths.
What had been reported about the people involved?
NTV reported that the victim had consulted police in December about a former partner persistently following her, and that police issued a prohibition order in January. The report also said police checked in with her afterward. These details are attributed to NTV’s account; the available reporting does not establish a court judgment or final police findings. The former relationship is the basis for describing the incident as targeted, not a judicial finding about motive.
What did the company say, and what happened to the store?
The store announced a temporary closure after the incident. In a statement reproduced by the Associated Press, The Pokémon Company said: “We deeply apologize to our customers for the tremendous worry and inconveniences.”
