What podcasters alleged in 2023
Podnews’s September 15, 2023 summary of Coffeezilla’s reporting named Theo Von, Brendan Schaub, Whitney Cummings, Brian Last and Jim Cornette among creators who said Kast Media had not paid them as expected. The coverage also relayed allegations about minimum guarantees. Those were public accounts and allegations, not findings made by a court.
In that same coverage, Von estimated that creators collectively were owed more than $4 million. That was a public estimate attributed to Von, not a verified total of adjudicated debts. The amount later reported for Von in Kast’s bankruptcy schedules was a different figure with a different meaning.
How Kast Media’s creator relationships worked
The dispute concerned money connected to podcast advertising and production. Arcadian Vanguard’s bankruptcy filings describe an advertising-agent relationship dating to 2018: Kast sold advertising for the shows and retained a share of the revenue. The parties disputed aspects of the arrangement, including its contractual status and performance.

Arcadian Vanguard’s October 2024 opposition to Kast’s proposed bankruptcy plan alleged late or missing payments and irregular accounting. It stated that Kast “constantly had issues making payments on time, as well as with supplying detailed accounting to correspond with the payments.” That sentence is the creditor’s assertion in its filing; it is not a court’s conclusion about the conduct.
What the bankruptcy figures measure
Kast Media filed for Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California in March 2024. Bloomberg Law reported on March 14, 2024 that the balance sheet filed with the case showed nearly $700,000 in assets and more than $6.3 million in liabilities as of January 31, 2024.

These figures should not be added together or treated as interchangeable. A creator’s collective estimate, an individual scheduled claim, a creditor’s proof of claim, and a company’s balance-sheet liabilities describe different things at different points in the proceedings.
Arcadian Vanguard’s claim and Kast’s objection
Arcadian Vanguard’s proof-of-claim narrative accepted $250,442.79 as the scheduled unsecured amount for its filing, while reserving the possibility of amending the claim after a fuller accounting and examination. Kast objected to aspects of the claim, including standing. The amount therefore reflects a claim in a contested bankruptcy process, not a final judgment fixing what Kast or an individual defendant owed.

The separate lawsuit against Colin Thomson and others
In January 2025, Jim Cornette and Arcadian Vanguard filed a separate civil complaint in California against Colin Thomson and other defendants. The complaint names Christine Thomson, Rod Thomson, Matthew Yu, PodcastOne and LiveOne, among others, and alleges that advertising revenue was diverted or withheld. Those are the plaintiffs’ allegations in a complaint; the filing itself does not establish that the defendants committed the alleged acts.
An indexed tentative ruling dated December 1, 2025 concerned demurrers and a motion to strike in that state-court action. A tentative ruling is not a final disposition. The available case information does not establish the lawsuit’s final status as of October 8, 2026.

What happened in Kast’s bankruptcy
The bankruptcy record lists Kast’s plan as confirmed on May 28, 2025. The trustee’s September 1, 2025 no-distribution report is associated with the case figures in the table above. A no-distribution report and the other docket figures do not support a specific conclusion about how much any named creator received.
The bankruptcy docket mirror also lists a later adversary-case complaint filed by River Donaghey against Kast Media on September 16, 2026. That entry shows activity in the bankruptcy docket after plan confirmation; it does not decide the separate Cornette and Arcadian Vanguard civil case.

What is established—and what remains unresolved
- Creators publicly alleged in 2023 that Kast Media had failed to pay them, and Von offered a collective estimate of more than $4 million.

Accordingly, “owes them millions” is a shorthand for the creators’ claims and reported estimates, not a finding that Thomson personally owes a proven aggregate amount.
