Dan Rivera, a paranormal investigator associated with the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), died in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2025, at age 54. Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow later said Rivera died from a cardiac event. Rivera had been in Gettysburg for a tour featuring the Annabelle doll, but the reported findings do not link the doll to his death.
What happened in Gettysburg
Rivera was in Gettysburg as part of a tour featuring Annabelle. The Gettysburg stop was hosted by Ghostly Images of Gettysburg. Early reports said the cause of death was pending while officials had not yet announced a determination.
What the coroner reported
In September 2025, Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow said Rivera died from a cardiac event. Dutrow said Rivera had a known history of cardiac issues that was consistent with the findings: “Mr. Rivera had a known history of cardiac issues, which were consistent with the findings.”
Was Annabelle in the room, or responsible for his death?
No. The coroner said Annabelle was not in Rivera’s room when he died. The reported information establishes the doll as tour context, not as a cause of death; it does not provide evidence that Annabelle contributed to Rivera’s cardiac event.

Annabelle’s reputation as a haunted doll is lore attributed to the Warrens, not a fact established by the reporting about Rivera’s death. That lore inspired The Conjuring film franchise. The distinction matters: the doll’s place in paranormal stories explains its role on the tour, but does not establish a connection to the coroner’s finding.
