No. Céline Dion had already performed at an Olympic opening ceremony in Atlanta in 1996, 28 years before she sang in Paris. In Atlanta, she performed “The Power of the Dream”; at the Paris 2024 ceremony on July 26, she sang Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower.

How the Paris 2024 performance differed
On July 26, 2024, Dion sang “Hymne à l’amour,” Édith Piaf’s classic, from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympic opening ceremony. An Olympic Museum retrospective says her performance concluded the ceremony. Dion’s official site later released the live recording on October 10, 2024, under the title “Hymne à l’amour (Live aux Jeux Olympiques de Paris 2024 / Live from the Olympic Games Paris 2024).” That later release does not make Paris her first Olympic performance.

Why the Paris appearance drew renewed attention
The Paris performance marked Dion’s return to a major live stage, and the ceremony reached a large audience in France: the Olympic Museum / International Olympic Committee reported 24.4 million television viewers there. That figure is specific to France, not a worldwide audience total.

After the ceremony, Dion wrote, “I’m honoured to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 opening ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favourite cities!” The Guardian reported the statement from her Instagram account.
