What was Promise Village?
Promise Village was a proposed festival planned for Langley Park in Perth on Saturday 12 October 2024, on Whadjuk Noongar lands. Announced in July, it was presented as a Perth counterpart drawing on the headliners of the Gold Coast festival Promiseland. Contemporary coverage described its planned program as a mix of R&B, Afrobeats and UK-based artists.
The announcement included J Hus, Rema, Jorja Smith, Headie One, Nemzzz, Uncle Waffles, NSG, DBN Gogo, Sarz, Jazmine Nikitta and Sasha Fern. Yung Filly was named as host. These were announced plans, not a performed lineup. PerthNow’s 8 July 2024 announcement coverage reported the lineup and plans.
Was Promise Village cancelled?
Yes. The festival was cancelled in July 2024, before its planned October date and two days after tickets went on sale, according to ABC triple j. The ticketing notice stated: “Due to unforeseen circumstances Promise Village on the 12th of October 2024 will no longer be going ahead.” ABC triple j reported the cancellation on 17 July 2024.

The notice gave no further detail, but co-founder Emal Naim later offered a more specific explanation to PerthNow: “It unfortunately didn’t hold up to initial expectations and there was not much support to sustain costs, it just wasn’t feasible anymore.” Naim also said: “We’ve made the decision indefinitely to not return to Perth, we’re scared to.” Those comments are his explanation, distinct from the cancellation notice’s stated reason. PerthNow published his comments on 17 July 2024.
Did Jorja Smith perform at Promise Village?
No performance at Promise Village is established: the festival was cancelled before it happened. Jorja Smith was announced as a headliner, but that announcement does not mean she performed there. The same applies to J Hus, Rema and the rest of the planned lineup.

How many people was the festival expected to attract?
At the time of the announcement, Naim told PerthNow that Promise Village expected about 15,000–20,000 attendees. That was an organizer’s forecast, not an attendance count; the event was cancelled and never took place.
In the same announcement coverage, Naim said the Gold Coast Promiseland event had drawn about 45,000–60,000 people across three days. That figure was also attributed to Naim, not presented as an independently verified count. The planned Perth event was a one-day festival, so the figures do not show that it reached Promiseland’s audience or operating scale. PerthNow reported both figures in its 8 July 2024 announcement story.

Were Promise Village tickets refunded?
The ticketing notice said refunds would be processed automatically. PerthNow reported that ticket buyers were asked to allow up to five business days for refunds to reach the account used to buy the ticket. That timeframe describes the 2024 cancellation notice, not current refund guidance. For any unresolved historical payment, buyers would need to check their ticketing or payment-provider records.
