Some fans said they missed Gunn’s mentorship and wanted more attention on fashion than interpersonal drama. Those complaints are documented, but there is no comparable audience data establishing that fans broadly stopped watching or showing that any one change caused a ratings decline.
What changed when Project Runway returned?
Freeform announced a 10-episode Season 21 in 2024, with episodes also set to stream on Hulu and Disney+. The network scheduled a two-episode premiere for July 31, 2025, followed by weekly broadcasts. The announcement described the series as reaching more than 125 countries; that figure refers to the show’s international broadcast reach, not Season 21 viewership. A familiar host, a changed panel
Heidi Klum returned, Nina Garcia remained a judge, and fashion stylist Law Roach joined the judging panel. Christian Siriano served as mentor. Tim Gunn, Klum’s longtime co-host and mentor, did not return. Executive producer Dan Cutforth described the intent as guiding “the evolution of ‘Project Runway’ for a new generation.” Freeform’s announcement provides the season’s framing and personnel details.
Why did some fans object?
They missed Tim Gunn’s mentorship
For some longtime viewers, Gunn was more than a presenter: his conversations with designers and guidance through the process were part of what made the show compelling. TV Insider’s August 2025 report documented reactions to his absence, including one fan’s comment: “I don’t accept it, won’t watch the new eps.” That is one viewer’s response, not evidence of how most viewers felt. They wanted more fashion and less interpersonal drama
Other commenters described the new season as placing too much emphasis on contestant drama or screen time, and too little on garment-making and the creative work. Those are audience judgments reported in coverage, not an independently established description of every episode or the experience of the full audience. Some viewers may not have known where to find it
The move from Bravo to Freeform could have made the return less visible to some existing viewers. One fan post asked “PROJECT RUNWAY MOVED..?” and its author said they had not realized the series was airing on Freeform rather than Bravo. That anecdote illustrates a possible discovery problem; it is not a survey or measure of how many viewers missed the change. The post is an example of that confusion.

Did fans actually stop watching?
Available evidence supports saying that some fans were dissatisfied, not that fans broadly stopped watching. No comparable Season 21 Nielsen or cross-platform audience totals are established here to measure a decline against earlier seasons. Social-media comments and audience-review scores cannot substitute for consistent viewership data, and complaints alone cannot show that Gunn’s departure, the network move, or a shift in tone caused an audience loss.
Where was Season 21 available?
For the U.S. launch, Freeform announced broadcast episodes and streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Current catalog availability and access may vary by date and territory, so check each service’s listing. Freeform’s premiere announcement documents those platforms for the season launch.

What happened after Season 21?
Season 22 was subsequently announced for July 2026. That confirms the franchise continued, but it does not establish whether Season 21 gained or lost viewers. Freeform’s Season 22 announcement reports the next season.
