Which photographs are being compared?
The Sussexes’ 2024 holiday card
The image at the center of the comparison appeared on Harry and Meghan’s 2024 holiday card. It shows their children, Archie and Lilibet, hugging their parents. Yahoo Entertainment’s Janine Henni described the image as echoing a photograph of Diana with her sons in a report published December 18, 2024: Yahoo Entertainment’s report.
Diana with William and Harry in 1991
The report identifies Diana’s photograph as showing her greeting William and Harry in Toronto on October 23, 1991. It places the moment aboard the royal yacht, but the archival caption has not been independently confirmed here, so that vessel detail should be treated cautiously.
What makes the images look alike?
The shared visual element is the children embracing a parent. That framing makes the images comparable: Diana with her sons in a 1991 royal-tour moment, and Harry and Meghan with their children in a 2024 holiday-card image. The resemblance is about the visible gesture and composition, not proof of a deliberate recreation.

What the comparison does—and does not—establish
The reported comparison supports a straightforward observation: both photographs show children hugging a parent. It does not establish that Harry and Meghan chose the pose to reference Diana, or what either image reveals about private family relationships. “Echo” is the report’s interpretive description, not a stated intention from the Sussexes.
Keep the later family photographs separate
Other Sussex family images published later are not the 2024 holiday card. Vogue reported on July 23, 2026, that Meghan posted “Summer Holiday” photographs, including a view of Harry, Archie, and Lilibet at Althorp: Vogue’s report.

A separate Father’s Day photograph appeared in a June 21, 2026 report by Us Weekly. It showed Harry cuddling Archie and Lilibet, alongside Meghan’s caption: “They’re so lucky to have you. We all are,” followed by “Happy Father’s Day to our one and only.” That image and caption belong to the 2026 post, not the 2024 card: Us Weekly’s report.
