Prince Harry’s Trump joke came during a Christmas-movie audition sketch on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which aired December 3, 2025. Harry quipped, “Really? I hear you elected a king,” an apparent reference to No Kings protests aimed at the Trump administration, according to ITV News.
What Harry said about Trump
In the sketch, Harry arrives looking for an audition for the fictional film Gingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska. Colbert asks why a real prince would want to appear in a Christmas movie. Harry replies, “You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?”
When Colbert challenges the idea that Americans are obsessed with royalty, Harry answers, “Really? I hear you elected a king.” ITV News described the line as an apparent reference to No Kings protests directed at the Trump administration; the source does not establish that interpretation through a confirmed statement from Harry.
How the sketch brought in CBS and Colbert
Harry then says he would “do anything” to get the fictional role: “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House – all the things you people in TV do.” ITV connected the lawsuit joke to CBS’s recent settlement with Trump.

Colbert responds, “Hey, I didn’t do any of those things.” Harry replies, “Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled.” The sketch ends with Colbert awarding him the role of “official Late Show prince of Christmas.”
When the sketch aired—and how it differs from Harry’s 2023 appearance
The Christmas sketch aired Wednesday, December 3, 2025; ITV News published its account the following day. It was a comedy sketch, not an interview about Trump.

Harry’s earlier appearance was a different segment. Paramount Press Express announced that his first Late Show appearance would air January 10, 2023, alongside the release of his memoir Spare. That appearance was an interview tied to the book, not the 2025 Christmas-film parody.
The dialogue quoted here is reported by ITV News. An official transcript or primary-source clip was not established in the available reporting, so the quotes and the explanation of the “elected a king” line should be understood as ITV’s account.
