Prince Harry reportedly FaceTimed Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet, backstage before his September 23, 2024 appearance at the Concordia Annual Summit in New York. Marie Claire reported the call, citing People for the detail that Harry showed the children the event space; Diana Award recipient Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang separately recalled seeing him call Meghan backstage.
What was reported about the call?
According to Marie Claire’s account of People’s reporting, Harry turned the camera to show the children the event space at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel before his session. Zhang recalled seeing him backstage and told Marie Claire: “And backstage, he was actually calling Meghan.” She also said: “I thought that was just so sweet, and it helped humanize him. He made sure we had no nerves at all.”

Those details come from the published accounts of People and Zhang, not from Concordia, which confirmed the event and program but did not verify the private call. The cited reports do not identify the phone model or establish whether a recording of the call was made public.
What was Harry doing in New York?
Harry was scheduled to take part in the 2024 Concordia Annual Summit, held September 23–25 at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. Concordia’s official September 23 program listed his session as “The Global Mental Health Crisis Among Young People: A Conversation with Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex and Dr Tessy Ojo CBE, CEO of The Diana Award.”

The program also named Dr. Tessy Ojo and Diana Award recipients Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang and Christina Williams. Concordia’s official session page publishes remarks attributed to Harry, including: “I applaud you, at your age, to be on this stage, to have the confidence that you do… and I know that my mum would be incredibly proud of you guys, not just you but all of the award winners.” These were comments in the session, not remarks about the reported FaceTime call.

Concordia’s 2024 retrospective describes a gathering with 106 mainstage sessions, more than 300 speakers, nine sitting heads of state, 58 partner organizations and more than 3,600 attendees from 112 countries. Those figures describe the summit as a whole, not Harry’s call or session.
