Prince Harry said in May 2025 that he could not see himself bringing his wife and children back to the UK “at this point,” after a court rejected his appeal over publicly funded police protection. That was his view in the immediate aftermath of the ruling, not a permanent declaration: by September 2026, reports described an extended UK stay, with Archie and Lilibet attending school there.
What Prince Harry said about Archie and Lilibet returning to the UK
In a BBC interview following the Court of Appeal judgment, Harry said he “can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K.” The Associated Press reported the remark on May 3, 2025, in the context of his security appeal. It reflected how he viewed the prospect at that moment; it should not be read as a settled decision about his children’s future. Associated Press, May 3, 2025
Why Harry made the remark
The dispute concerned the level of publicly funded police protection Harry would receive during visits to Great Britain after his change in royal status. The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) had decided he would no longer receive the same degree of protection he had previously received. Harry challenged that decision through judicial review. Judiciary case page
The Court of Appeal heard the case on April 8 and 9, 2025, and dismissed the appeal in a judgment handed down on May 2. The ruling addressed the legality of the security decision under challenge; it did not determine whether a future family visit would be safe or impossible. Judiciary case page

Have Archie and Lilibet returned to the UK?
By August 2026, the story had changed. The Associated Press reported that Harry and Meghan had decided to return to the UK for an extended stay beginning that fall, and that Archie and Lilibet had enrolled at British schools. The AP attributed the school and future-plan details to a person close to the Sussexes. It also reported that the couple would not resume working-royal roles. Associated Press, August 19, 2026
On September 26, 2026, ITV reported that Harry said the children were “happy in school” and that it was “great” to be back in Britain. These later reports describe the family’s circumstances after the May 2025 interview; they do not change what Harry said then. ITV, September 26, 2026
