Prince Harry planned to visit New York during September 2024’s Climate Week and United Nations General Assembly High-level Week to advance his patronages and philanthropic initiatives, according to a spokesperson quoted by Marie Claire. The report named engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award and Travalyst, and said the Archewell Foundation would play an important role. It did not provide exact travel dates or confirm that Harry would travel alone.
Why was Prince Harry going to New York?
The stated purpose was to advance Harry’s patronages and philanthropic initiatives. Marie Claire attributed the announcement to a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex, who said Harry “will be in town to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.”

Organizations named in the announcement
The spokesperson listed planned engagements with four organizations:
- African Parks
- The HALO Trust
- The Diana Award
- Travalyst
Marie Claire also reported that the Archewell Foundation, which Harry founded with Meghan, would play an important role in the trip. The report did not detail what that role would involve.

When was the planned visit?
The announcement concerned a September 2024 visit timed around two international events in New York. Climate Week began on September 22, 2024, and UN General Assembly High-level Week began on September 23, according to the Marie Claire report. Those are the start dates of the event weeks, not confirmed dates for Harry’s arrival or departure. The report did not give a complete itinerary.

Not by the cited report. Although its headline characterized the visit as “solo,” its account says Harry would travel to New York and lists intended engagements; it does not explicitly say he would travel alone or identify anyone who might accompany him. Whether Meghan would join him was therefore not established in that report.

How does the 2024 visit differ from Harry’s 2026 New York trip?
Later reports describe a separate September 2026 visit, not a continuation of the 2024 announcement. Reuters Connect reported on September 11, 2026, that Harry planned to attend the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting on September 22 and 23, 2026. A ¡HOLA! report published September 24, 2026 covered appearances during that later trip, including the Clinton Global Initiative and a Diana Award-sponsored event. Those 2026 events should not be treated as the itinerary for the 2024 visit.
