Posham Pa has the ingredients of a tense psychological thriller: a mother who draws her daughters into crime, a troubling real-life inspiration, and a cast led by Mahie Gill, Sayani Gupta and Ragini Khanna. But the film’s short runtime does not guarantee a taut story. Its performances give the premise weight, while the slow approach to its twist and an abrupt finish blunt the impact.
What is Posham Pa about?
Released on 21 August 2019, Posham Pa is a Hindi ZEE5 Original psychological thriller directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay. ZEE5’s listing describes a mother who coerces her daughters into a life of crime and presents the film as inspired by true events. ZEE5 identifies Renuka Shinde and Seema Gavit as the real-life inspiration; that connection does not, by itself, establish how closely the film follows the historical record.

The subject is disturbing: the crimes involve children. The film’s premise is therefore more than a conventional family thriller, and viewers should expect upsetting material rather than a light mystery.
Do the performances make the story work?
The central performances are the film’s strongest asset. ZEE5’s 21 August 2019 review discusses Sayani Gupta, Mahie Gill and Ragini Khanna’s work positively, and the cast gives the family dynamic a human focus amid the grim premise. Their presence helps sustain interest when the narrative takes time to build toward its major turn.
The official cast list also names Shivani Raghuvanshi and Imaaduddin Shah. The film’s subject matter invites questions about motive and responsibility, but the available critical accounts do not establish a broad consensus on how fully it develops each character. The clearest supported criticism is structural: the story’s pace and its closure.
Where does the film lose momentum?
A long wait for the twist
A ZEE5 review roundup published on 26 August 2019 reproduces a critic’s complaint that the 76-minute film takes a long time to reach its twist. That is a useful distinction: the issue is not simply that the film is brief, but that its build-up can feel slow relative to the payoff it is preparing. A short running time can make a thriller feel concentrated; here, the route to the central revelation may instead test the viewer’s patience.
An abrupt ending
ZEE5’s own review also describes the ending as abrupt. Slow pacing and abrupt closure are separate weaknesses: one delays the story’s key turn, while the other gives the resolution little room to land. Together, they help explain why the film’s promising performances and premise do not produce a consistently forceful finish.
Is the 75-minute runtime an advantage?
ZEE5 lists the Hindi version at 1 hour 15 minutes. That compact length is convenient if you want a contained thriller rather than a series, but it does not automatically make the storytelling brisk. The reported slow build and sudden ending suggest that the film’s problem is less its total length than how it distributes time between setup, revelation and resolution.

Watch Posham Pa if its unsettling premise and the work of its lead performers appeal to you, and you are comfortable with a story about crimes against children. Go in expecting a thriller with a strong central setup but uneven momentum: the path to the twist is reported as slow, and the ending as abrupt. It is a reasonable pick for a short, grim drama, but less convincing if you want a tightly paced mystery with a fully satisfying resolution.
