Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket launched on October 30, 2024. It is a free-to-start iOS and Android game built around collecting digital Pokémon cards and playing short, app-specific battles—not a mobile version of the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game’s full rules.
What is Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Pokémon TCG Pocket is a mobile card-collecting and battling game developed jointly by The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc. and DeNA Co., Ltd. Digital card collecting is at its center: cards feature familiar Pokémon artwork as well as new cards exclusive to Pocket. The app is available for iOS and Android.
The Pokémon Company’s launch description says players can open two five-card digital booster packs each day at no cost. These are in-app packs, not physical products.
How are Pocket battles different from the physical card game?
Pocket has battles, but it does not reproduce the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game’s full rules. Pokémon Support explicitly says the games’ rules differ. Pocket’s smartphone battles use 20-card decks and were designed to take about five minutes, according to The Pokémon Company’s launch description.

To make play more accessible, the app includes Auto-battle, Auto-Build and Rental Deck features. Pocket’s card collection and battles therefore belong to the app’s own format; owning physical cards is not presented as a requirement for playing it.
Is Pokémon TCG Pocket free?
The app is free to start, with optional in-game purchases. The Pokémon Support page describes the Premium Pass as a paid service that provides in-game benefits for a monthly fee. Pack availability and purchase terms can change, so check the app’s current offer details before subscribing or buying.

Does Pokémon TCG Pocket still get new content?
Yes. Official Pokémon updates indicate the game remains active in 2026: the official news search listing reports that Deluxe Pack: Mega launched on September 29, 2026, and the official Japanese-language Pocket site says a new series starts in October 2026. Set details and schedules can change; consult the official Pokémon TCG Pocket site for current announcements.
Devices, languages and trading
Compatibility
In a compatibility FAQ updated July 30, 2026, Pokémon Support recommends iPhone X or later running iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, with at least 3 GB of RAM. For Android, it recommends Android 7.0 or later, Vulkan and 64-bit support, at least 3 GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 845 GPU or similar. Meeting those specifications does not guarantee the app will work on every device; check the current Pokémon TCG Pocket FAQ for compatibility guidance.

Languages
Pokémon Support lists nine available languages: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese and Korean.
Trading
The current Trading FAQ says trading is limited to friends and unlocks 14 days after you start the game. Check the in-app rules for any conditions that apply to a particular trade.

Should you buy physical Pokémon cards to play Pocket?
No physical cards are established as necessary or integrated products for Pocket. The app uses digital cards and its own battle rules; the physical Pokémon TCG is a separate way to collect and play. Physical booster packs, decks, sleeves or binders may appeal to fans of Pokémon cards generally, but they are not required purchases for playing or collecting in Pocket.
