Why the May 9 show stands out
The Paris opener was the first Eras Tour performance after the April 2024 release of The Tortured Poets Department. The show archive marks May 9 as the debut of the album’s new tour section and a reorganization of the setlist. Paris La Défense Arena described the dates as the first European presentation of this musical era.
The new section included “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” followed by “Karma.” Vogue France quoted Swift greeting the audience: “Bonsoir Paris, bienvenue dans le Eras Tour”.
The concert in context
Paris La Défense Arena’s retrospective says the venue welcomed 45,000 spectators per night and 180,000 across the four Paris dates, May 9–12, 2024. It also reports that 30% of the audience came from abroad, including 20% from the United States. These are venue-published figures for the run and its per-night attendance, not an independently audited count specifically for Night One.
The venue describes each show as lasting three hours and fifteen minutes, featuring 45 songs and around ten costume changes. A community-maintained setlist.fm event record lists Paramore’s start at 6:45 p.m. and Swift’s performance from 7:55 p.m. to 11:10 p.m.
