The January complaint identified the plaintiffs as Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.N., reported them as former contestants on All American Girl, and alleged sexual assault and related misconduct. These are allegations in civil complaints, not findings of fact.
What was the second lawsuit?
On January 2, 2024, Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.N. filed a complaint in Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles Times. The women were reported as former contestants on All American Girl. Their complaint alleged sexual assault and related misconduct by Lythgoe. The plaintiffs were identified in the cited reporting only by those pseudonyms.
The complaint is a set of claims made by the plaintiffs; it does not establish that the alleged events occurred. The available reporting does not provide a court finding resolving those allegations.
How did Paula Abdul’s case come first?
Abdul filed a separate California civil lawsuit in late December 2023. She alleged sexual assault connected with her work on American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Lythgoe denied Abdul’s allegations.

On January 5, 2024, the Associated Press reported that Lythgoe would step aside as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance while seeking to clear his name. The AP quoted him saying, “I am dedicating myself to clearing my name and restoring my reputation.” That statement described his position, not a court conclusion.
What happened to Abdul’s lawsuit?
Abdul and Lythgoe reached an unconditional settlement in December 2024, the Associated Press reported. The terms were not disclosed. The settlement ended Abdul’s case procedurally; it was not a court determination of liability and does not establish the truth of either party’s position.

After the settlement, the AP quoted Abdul saying, “I am grateful that this chapter has successfully come to a close and is now something I can now put behind me.”
What other claims were reported?
Additional Jane Doe lawsuits were reported in February and March 2024. Those reports described allegations concerning incidents said to have occurred in 2016 and 2018. In March, the Los Angeles Times reported a new complaint alleging an incident at Lythgoe’s home in 2018. These were separate claims and should not be conflated with either Abdul’s case or the All American Girl plaintiffs’ complaint.

A LegalClarity summary published July 3, 2026, reported that the 2018 Jane Doe case was dismissed following a settlement. It also said the All American Girl plaintiffs dismissed their remaining claims against a production company in July 2025. Those reported procedural outcomes do not amount to findings about the underlying allegations.

Not on the information established by the cited later-status reporting. The LegalClarity summary said a 2016-related claim had a conditional settlement that counsel described as partially performed in 2025, and that a hearing was scheduled for February 6, 2026. It did not report what happened at that hearing. Without a verified docket update or reliable post-hearing report, the result of that claim should not be stated as resolved or as still pending.
