Those were among the ceremony’s clearest surprises—but “snub” is an interpretation, not an official Academy category, and nomination-day omissions are different from nominees who lost on Oscar night.
Why was Marty Supreme one of the biggest Oscar 2026 surprises?
The Academy’s nominations list gave Marty Supreme nine nominations. It won none at the March 15, 2026 ceremony, according to Forbes’s post-ceremony account. That gap between nominations and wins makes the film’s shutout a striking result; it does not make it an official “worst loss” or explain how voters reached their choices.
Timothée Chalamet was nominated for lead actor for the film, and the Academy’s nominations document also lists him among its producers. He did not win the acting award: Michael B. Jordan won for Sinners.
What was the historic Oscars 2026 tie?
The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva shared the live-action short-film award. Variety described it as the seventh tie in Oscar history. The shared award was a rare ceremony-night outcome; the historical tally is Variety’s, rather than an ordinal reported on the Academy’s results page.

Which notable Oscar nominations were missing?
Nomination-day “snubs” are omissions from the nominee list, not losses by people who were nominated. The Associated Press highlighted several unexpected omissions on Jan. 22, 2026. These are AP’s examples, not an official Academy ranking or a universal consensus.
- Ariana Grande for Wicked: For Good and Paul Mescal were among the acting omissions AP called out.
- Guillermo del Toro was not nominated for directing Frankenstein, although the film received nine other nominations.
- Gwyneth Paltrow and Odessa A’zion were omitted for Marty Supreme; Regina Hall was omitted for One Battle After Another.
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle was among AP’s animated-feature omissions.
These absences do not have the same meaning as Chalamet’s result: he made the ballot and lost, while the people and film above were not nominated in the cited categories.

How did the nomination leader compare with the Best Picture winner?
Sinners set an Academy record with 16 nominations, then won four awards. One Battle After Another received 13 nominations and won six, including Best Picture. Marty Supreme had nine nominations and no wins.
| Film | Nominations | Wins |
|---|---|---|
| Sinners | 16, an Academy record | 4 |
| One Battle After Another | 13 | 6, including Best Picture |
| Marty Supreme | 9 | 0 |
The nomination figures come from the Academy’s 2026 nominations document; the win totals and Best Picture result are reported by ABC. The contrast shows why nomination totals and awards-night wins should not be treated as interchangeable measures of a film’s success.

Can the Academy’s voting rules explain a particular snub?
No. The Academy describes a process, not individual voters’ motives. Branch members nominate in their respective categories, with cross-branch participation rules in four categories; all active members choose the Best Picture nominees. Final voting uses a secret online ballot tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Those rules provide context, but they do not establish why a specific person or film was omitted or why a nominee lost.

- 1500+ QUESTIONS: While most other Amazon quiz games have a paltry 400-500 questions, we supercharge the fun with over 1500 questions spanning an incredibly large array of topics! Trivia For Everyone contains 190 cards with 1520 questions, requires 2 or more players, and is suitable for those 14 years and older.

Question Master is more suited for relaxed play that can take place while socializing. Teams allows you to combine with your friends in a group to take out the competition.
- INNOVATIVE CARD DESIGN: Unlike other Amazon card games which use drab cards that spoil the answer for the reader, we’ve engineered beautiful multi-colored cards that don’t immediately give away the answer and allow for smooth play. It’s simple. Easier questions are in blue; their answers are on the other side of the card, also in blue. Harder questions are in red; their answers are on the other side of the card, also in red. No learning curve required!
