Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning farewell show did raise money for charity, but the widely circulated £140 million figure was not confirmed by one of the recipient charities. In January 2026, Jack Osbourne estimated that the three beneficiaries received about £6 million to £7 million combined. That is an attributed estimate, not an audited final total.
What was Back to the Beginning?
On 5 July 2025, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s original lineup—Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward—performed at Villa Park in Birmingham. Ozzy opened with a short solo set before joining the band for its billed final performance. The Premier League’s event-day report also documented the show and lineup.
The event was presented as a fundraiser. Its February 2025 announcement said profits would be shared equally among Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorns Children’s Hospice. “Profits” matters: it does not mean that gross ticket receipts or every other source of event revenue would be passed directly to the charities without costs.
Did the show raise £140 million for charity?
That figure was circulated after the event, but Cure Parkinson’s said it was not a confirmed total. In August 2025, Civil Society reported that musical director Tom Morello had initially said £140 million was raised, while Sharon Osbourne disputed the widely quoted figures. Andy Simons, then Cure Parkinson’s director of fundraising, said the figures being discussed were far beyond what the charities had considered, and that the charity had been told the £140 million amount was unconfirmed.

Simons also said some funding had started transferring while ticket revenue was still being calculated. The outlet reported that Cure Parkinson’s funding was to support research, with an agreed restriction to trials in Birmingham and the West Midlands. The reporting does not establish £140 million as money paid to the beneficiaries.
What amount did the charities receive?
In a January 2026 report, Guitar World quoted Jack Osbourne estimating that each charity received roughly £1.5 million to £2 million—about £6 million to £7 million combined. He said the event still had costs to pay even though the bands were not paid and much of the crew donated their time.

This is Jack Osbourne’s estimate as relayed by the publication, not an audited final reconciliation from the organizer or all three charities. The sources cited here do not provide an organizer-issued audited total showing the final amount transferred to each beneficiary.
Why do the reported totals differ?
“Raised” can refer to different stages of an event’s finances: gross receipts, money remaining after costs, or funds actually distributed to charities. The reports also come from different speakers and dates. The £140 million figure was an early claim that Cure Parkinson’s said was unconfirmed; Jack Osbourne’s later figure was an estimate of what he said the charities received.

A September 2026 Louder / Metal Hammer report cited 44,000 tickets, more than five million livestream viewers and an estimate of $11 million (£8,323,425) raised. That outlet estimate is yet another reported figure; the article does not document an audited final payout. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable or combined into a single definitive charity total.
Which charities benefited?
- Cure Parkinson’s: The charity’s reported share was intended to support research, with funding restricted to trials in Birmingham and the West Midlands, according to Civil Society.
- Birmingham Children’s Hospital: Named as an equal beneficiary in the event announcement.
- Acorns Children’s Hospice: Also named as an equal beneficiary in the event announcement.

As of 24 September 2026, Louder / Metal Hammer reported that Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning was scheduled for theatrical release on 28 October 2026, with tickets available. Those announcements establish theatrical plans, not a DVD or Blu-ray release.
