Oppenheimer took Best Picture at the 96th Academy Awards, capping a ceremony that also celebrated its four acting winners and featured performances of two of the year’s most recognizable nominated songs. These are selected highlights, not an official ranking: the Academy’s own “Memorable Moments” page spotlights the film’s win, the acting winners and host Jimmy Kimmel.
Oppenheimer wins Best Picture—and six Oscars
The Academy named Oppenheimer Best Picture, with Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan credited as producers. The film also won directing for Nolan, actor in a leading role for Cillian Murphy, cinematography for Hoyte van Hoytema, film editing for Jennifer Lame and original score for Ludwig Göransson. Its sweep across major categories made the Best Picture announcement the night’s defining result.

The four acting winners
The Academy’s memorable-moments coverage also called attention to all four acting awards:
- Actor in a Leading Role: Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer.
- Actor in a Supporting Role: Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer.
- Actress in a Leading Role: Emma Stone for Poor Things.
- Actress in a Supporting Role: Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.
Together, the results gave Oppenheimer two acting wins, while Stone and Randolph represented two other prominent films of the year.

“I’m Just Ken” brings the songs to the stage
Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson performed “I’m Just Ken,” one of the nominated Original Songs. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell also performed “What Was I Made For?,” which went on to win the category. Other announced musical performers included Jon Batiste, Becky G, and Scott George with the Osage Singers. The Academy’s announcement listed the performers and songs, while its awards results record the winning song.
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 96th Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The Academy announced an ABC broadcast at 7 p.m. EDT / 4 p.m. PDT and said the ceremony would be televised in more than 200 territories worldwide.

More notable wins across the ballot
Poor Things added awards for costume design, makeup and hairstyling, and production design to Emma Stone’s acting win. The Zone of Interest won international feature film and sound, while Godzilla Minus One received the visual effects award. Those wins rounded out a ceremony whose most prominent headlines belonged to Oppenheimer, the acting winners and the musical performances.
