The first Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 teaser put the long-awaited team-up front and center: Richter Belmont and Alucard join forces against Erzsebet Báthory, whose pursuit of the power of Sekhmet threatens to plunge the world into darkness. Netflix’s second season premiered on January 16, 2025, so the teaser’s release-date window is now history—not an upcoming January release.
What the season 2 teaser shows
The teaser’s central reveal is Alucard fighting alongside Richter and the vampire hunters. James Callis returns as Alucard from the original Castlevania series, while Edward Bluemel voices Richter. Their opponent is Erzsebet Báthory, voiced by Franka Potente, who seeks Sekhmet’s power. That is the season’s setup, rather than a complete account of what happens in the released episodes.
Netflix’s season-two announcement describes the group racing to stop Erzsebet from gaining Sekhmet’s full power. Showrunner Kevin Kolde said, “Alucard is going to lead Richter and Annette to Paris to try and find the last element that would allow Erzsebet to achieve the full power of Sekhmet and become even more powerful than she was in Season 1.”
When did Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 premiere?
Season 2 premiered on Netflix on January 16, 2025, according to Netflix Tudum. The September 2024 teaser announcement initially pointed to January 2025 without a specific day; the later date is the one to use.

Where the story goes
The series continues in France during the French Revolution, with the action moving from the countryside toward Paris and also reaching Egypt, according to Netflix’s preview. Netflix’s official synopsis places the story in 1792 and describes an alliance between counter-revolutionary aristocrats and a vampire messiah. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks Richter’s help.
The Tudum preview describes Alucard as a reluctant mentor to Richter and Annette. It also says Richter and Annette’s relationship continues to evolve and that Edouard’s singing remains part of the series. These are preview details, not a substitute for the season’s full story.

Netflix describes Nocturne as loosely based on the 1993 game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. The show’s 1792 setting prompted creator and writer Clive Bradley to consider how vampires might fit into the French Revolution. As Bradley put it, he “wondered how that would play if you had vampires around.”

Symphony of the Night is a meaningful point of comparison within the franchise, but Netflix does not identify it as the series’ direct source. The distinction matters: the show draws loosely on Rondo of Blood, rather than adapting Symphony of the Night directly. Netflix’s Media Center synopsis and credits provide the official adaptation description.
