Is Drake’s “Wah Gwan Delilah” AI? What the Evidence Shows

Snowd4y’s “Wah Gwan Delilah” credits Drake, but reported audio analyses did not determine whether its vocals are his own or an AI copy.

The vocals on “Wah Gwan Delilah” have not been definitively established as either Drake’s unaltered voice or an AI-generated copy. Two audio-analysis companies gave Billboard mixed results in June 2024, and Drake’s social-media post associating him with the track does not settle how the vocals were made.

What is “Wah Gwan Delilah”?

Snowd4y released “Wah Gwan Delilah” on SoundCloud on June 3, 2024. It reworks Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” as a Toronto-themed parody and credits Drake as a feature. The unusual lyrics and sound prompted listeners to ask whether the voice attributed to Drake was authentic or AI-generated. Billboard reported on the question and the audio checks; WIRED covered the release and reactions.

What did the audio analyses find?

Billboard consulted Ircam Amplify and Pex. Neither company’s reported result established whether the vocals were Drake’s own or an AI copy.

  • Romain Simiand, Ircam Amplify’s chief product officer, said the company’s first analysis found “SOME traces of [generative] AI” but also “a lot of mix involved.” That preliminary observation does not identify which parts of the recording, if any, were AI-generated.
  • Pex senior vice president of sales Larry Mills said its VoiceID matcher found that the voice did not match Drake’s official releases as closely as expected, but was close enough that it could be Drake or a good AI copy. Pex said it lacked enough information for a full Automatic Content Recognition check.

These are qualified results, not a verdict. As Billboard explained, audio checks can look for artifacts, watermarks or similarities between voices, but those methods are developing and have limits; watermarks may also be removed or altered. A detector result should not be treated as proof unless its method and findings support that conclusion.

Does Drake’s Instagram post prove he sang it?

No. WIRED reported that Drake shared the song to his Instagram Story, a sign of public association with the track. But a social-media post does not independently verify the vocal recording or production process. The post and the acoustic question are separate kinds of evidence.

Plain White T’s frontman Tom Higgenson reacted to the confusion in a video, saying, “It’s crazy that everybody thinks that it’s real,” as quoted by WIRED. That remark reflects the reaction to the track; it does not authenticate Drake’s vocals.

Why did listeners suspect AI?

There was a separate, confirmed Drake-related AI incident in 2023. The U.S. Copyright Office’s 2024 report says “Heart on My Sleeve,” which featured voices resembling Drake and The Weeknd, was made with unauthorized AI-generated vocal replicas; neither artist knew about it before release. The report attributes more than 15 million social-media views and 600,000 Spotify listens to that track. Those figures and that finding concern “Heart on My Sleeve,” not “Wah Gwan Delilah.” The Copyright Office report provides context for why audiences questioned a later Drake-attributed recording, but it is not evidence about how Snowd4y’s track was produced.

What can be concluded?

In the June 2024 reporting, the available evidence did not resolve whether some or all of the vocals attributed to Drake on “Wah Gwan Delilah” were generated or transformed with AI, or who created them. The reported specialist checks were inconclusive, Pex’s check was incomplete, and the reporting did not provide a definitive account of the production chain. The most accurate answer is that the vocals’ provenance remains unresolved—not that the track has been proved fully human or fully AI-generated.
