Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear reunited as Nirvana’s surviving members at FireAid on January 30, 2025, performing four songs at the Kia Forum in Inglewood with guest vocalists St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Violet Grohl. Kurt Cobain was not part of the performance; he died in 1994.
Who performed, and which songs did they sing?
The surprise set paired the three surviving musicians with a different guest vocalist for each song. The Associated Press reported this sequence and these assignments:
| Song | Guest vocalist |
|---|---|
| “Breed” | St. Vincent |
| “School” | Kim Gordon |
| “Territorial Pissings” | Joan Jett |
| “All Apologies” | Violet Grohl |
Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear played together as Nirvana. The performance reunited those surviving members, not the original lineup: Kurt Cobain died in 1994. Contemporary coverage described it as their first public performance together as Nirvana since 2018. The Associated Press’s account of the FireAid concert gives the set details; Pitchfork and Revolver’s January 31, 2025, reports describe the reunion.
What was FireAid?
FireAid was a two-venue benefit concert staged at the Kia Forum in Inglewood and Intuit Dome to support people affected by the Los Angeles-area wildfires. The fires began January 7, 2025; organizers announced the benefit on January 10, and the event expanded to two venues after a large number of performers volunteered, according to the Associated Press. The AP’s January 30 account covers the concert and its purpose, while its January 28 explanation of how FireAid came together describes the planning.
