A November 2023 news report said adult-content creators planned to visit Gold Coast Schoolies and recruit young men for explicit videos. It reported intentions, not verified filming: the available sources do not establish that the planned encounters took place or that police investigated them.
What did the 2023 report say?
PerthNow published the story on November 24, 2023. It named Kay Manuel, Bonnie Blue and Leilani May, reporting that they planned to attend Gold Coast Schoolies and recruit 18-year-old men for explicit videos, with virgins described as a particular target. The story attributed the plans to statements on creator social accounts and included commentary from West Live presenters Ben O’Shea and Matt Tinney. These are details reported by PerthNow, not independently verified outcomes. PerthNow’s November 24, 2023 report.
The report also said the creators described checking identification and using consent forms. That account does not establish what happened in any particular interaction or whether consent was valid. The story raised concern that intoxication could undermine meaningful decision-making; the available sources do not establish that anyone was intoxicated or that an offence occurred.
Was filming or a police investigation confirmed?
No. The sources available for this account do not verify that filming or the planned encounters happened, identify a participant, or establish a police investigation into these specific plans. A report of an intention is not proof of a completed act. Nor do the sources support a legal conclusion about any particular person or interaction.

What happened after the report?
In 2024, advocacy group Collective Shout reproduced a statement attributed to a Peppers Soul spokesperson saying the hotel had no association with the individual, that the booking had been cancelled, and that heightened security measures had been implemented over Schoolies Week. This is Collective Shout’s account of the spokesperson’s statement; it does not independently establish that the planned filming occurred. Collective Shout’s 2024 account.
How does Schoolies operate now?
The historical report concerned plans attributed to creators in 2023. It should not be read as evidence that the same plans recurred. Queensland Government lists Gold Coast Schoolies Week 2026 as November 21–27. Its Schoolies Hub is a fenced, alcohol- and drug-free entertainment area on Surfers Paradise Beach. Legitimate school leavers can enter with a free official wristband; the Hub is not described as an open filming venue. The Hub’s entry terms prohibit non-consensual sexualised behaviour and other disorderly or unlawful conduct. They also say attendees consent to being filmed or photographed by accredited media and official Safer Schoolies photographers and videographers while in the Hub. That limited event-area consent is distinct from consent to private sexual activity or commercial explicit content. Schoolies Hub terms and information.
Official media and event operations
The 2025 Schoolies media guide describes a government and community partnership: the Department of Housing and Public Works coordinates with the City of Gold Coast, and the Queensland Police Service is responsible for law enforcement and public safety. The current media page says personnel performing media duties at the response must apply for accreditation. These are event arrangements, not evidence of an investigation into the 2023 plans. A Queensland Government statement dated November 22, 2023 said 10 school-leavers had been arrested by that point in the event, compared with 40 at the same point the previous year. It also reported more than 180 safety cameras operating in the Surfers Paradise precinct. These are dated figures about the 2023 response, not current annual estimates and not evidence about the creators named in the PerthNow story.
