The show behind the “back and wowing critics” headline is Hacks, a comedy-drama about the uneasy partnership between Deborah Vance, a veteran Las Vegas comedian, and Ava Daniels, a younger comedy writer. The headline refers to the series’ Season 3 return in May 2024; Hacks has since reached five seasons.
What is Hacks about?
Deborah Vance is an established comedian trying to sustain her career, while Ava Daniels is a younger writer brought into her orbit. Their professional relationship becomes a dark mentorship: the two have different instincts and ambitions, and their work together drives the series.

Why did the show return to the headlines?

If you like character-driven comedy-drama built around a difficult working relationship, Hacks offers a clear reason to start: the friction between a seasoned performer and a younger writer is the center of the show. Its strong critic scores provide useful context, but they cannot predict whether its humor or characters will suit your taste.
