The former Olympic figure skater said she knew some of the people aboard and had come to be with her skating community. Coverage confirms the interview and its broadcast, but does not establish that her remarks were being made live on television.
Why was Nancy Kerrigan emotional?
Kerrigan was responding to the deaths of people connected to figure skating, including members of the Skating Club of Boston community. In a CNN interview on January 30, 2025, she said, “When you find out you know some of the people on the plane, it’s an even bigger blow.” CNN’s transcript and video identify her as a 1994 Olympic silver medalist.
She explained that she did not feel it was right to stay home and do interviews, so she contacted people at the club and came to be with them. “We just wanted to be here and be part of our community,” she said.
What did Kerrigan say about the victims?
She expressed sympathy for the athletes, skaters and their families, as well as everyone else aboard: “I just feel for the athletes, the skaters, their families, but anyone that was on that plane, not just the skaters, because it’s just such a tragic event.” Her comments make clear that the loss reached beyond figure skating, even as the club community mourned people connected to it.

Contemporaneous coverage from ABC News and Yahoo Sports, republishing People reporting, provides additional context about Kerrigan’s appearance and the club. LiveNOW from FOX reported 67 fatalities in the collision; that is a contemporaneous report, not an aviation-investigation finding. LiveNOW from FOX’s video shows coverage of the story.
Was Kerrigan’s interview live on TV?
The available accounts establish that Kerrigan spoke to reporters at the club and that the remarks were covered by news outlets. They do not establish that she was speaking live on television at the time. “Tearful interview” or “tearful media appearance” is therefore more precise than saying the remarks themselves were live.

Is this connected to the 1994 attack on Kerrigan?
No. This interview followed the 2025 plane collision and concerned people in the skating community. It is separate from the 1994 attack on Kerrigan, which is documented as a distinct event. History’s account of the 1994 attack provides that separate context.
