What happens in A Minecraft Movie
In a boxing-ring scene in A Minecraft Movie, Steve, played by Jack Black, encounters a chicken jockey and shouts its name. The moment brings a game term into a theatrical set piece: viewers who recognize the creature get the reference, while the emphatic delivery gives the line a comic punch even if they do not.

Jack Black later addressed theater behavior in an announcement reported by the Los Angeles Times: “for today’s presentation of ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ please no throwing popped corn.” The report says he followed the request with more Minecraft references and a shouted “chicken jockeys!” The Los Angeles Times report on Jack Black and the theater meme.
Why the line became a meme
The phrase already named an unusual game creature; the movie supplied a loud, memorable delivery. Soon after the final trailer appeared, users remixed the clip, and videos of theater reactions circulated as the film reached cinemas. Cheering is different from disrupting a screening
Reports described viewers shouting or cheering, but also food and drinks being thrown toward screens, cleanup burdens, and audience members being removed. A shared meme can make a theater feel lively; throwing food or repeatedly interrupting the film imposes the moment on people who came to watch. Enjoying or quoting the reference does not require disrupting anyone else’s screening.
