In “Day,” the fourth episode of The Acolyte, Mae begins to question her mission after learning that Osha is alive, while Osha joins the Jedi search for Kelnacca on Khofar. Their paths move toward a reunion, but they are not yet seeking the same thing—and a masked adversary’s arrival cuts off the chance to see what that meeting might become.

The Jedi hope to reach Kelnacca before Mae. Their search through Khofar’s jungle gives the episode its measured, uneasy momentum: the characters are closing in on one another, but the encounter they are moving toward is not simply a family reunion. Mae and Osha have been shaped by opposing loyalties and different expectations of what must happen next.
Why does Mae change her mind?
Mae’s plans begin to shift when she learns that Osha survived. Until then, her pursuit of the Jedi has been bound up with vengeance and the unseen master directing her. News of her sister’s survival gives Mae a reason to question whether she still wants to carry out that plan. The official episode synopsis describes her as beginning to reconsider her plans; the larger idea that the sisters’ paths are converging is an interpretation of the episode, not a stated canon explanation.

James Whitbrook’s reading of “Day” in his June 19, 2024, Gizmodo recap emphasizes how both sisters are being steered by other people. Qimir urges Mae to act as the weapon of their unseen master. Sol, meanwhile, cares for Osha but also brings her into the mission in a way that keeps him involved in the Jedi investigation. That parallel does not make the two men’s roles identical; it highlights how little room either sister has had to choose her own course.
Why are Mae and Osha’s paths converging?
Mae is starting to question the mission that brought her to Khofar. Osha, by contrast, is joining the Jedi who are hunting for Mae and preparing to face her. The sisters are drawing closer in physical terms, but their intentions remain different: Mae may want to break from the path laid out for her, while Osha is approaching the search as a Jedi confronting a dangerous threat.
Rank #2
That mismatch gives the episode its emotional tension. A reunion could allow the sisters to see each other as people rather than as targets, but neither has yet reached the other on changed terms. Whitbrook’s interpretation is that the possibility of reconciliation is suspended just as their paths meet—not resolved by the episode.
Who is the masked figure at the end?
The Jedi find Kelnacca dead at his retreat. At the climax, a cloaked, masked adversary appears wielding a red lightsaber. The episode establishes the figure as a threat, but the cited official episode material does not identify the character, so the appearance is best understood here as a cliffhanger rather than a confirmed answer about identity.
Rank #3
StarWars.com’s June 19 episode highlights track the same sequence: Mae and Qimir seek Kelnacca, Sol’s team races across Khofar, the sisters begin to doubt their goals, and the masked figure appears after Kelnacca’s fate is revealed. Qimir’s line, “That is one Jedi that doesn’t want to be found,” captures the search’s ominous tone without explaining who—or what—the final arrival means.
Why is the search set on Khofar?
Khofar’s jungle makes the search feel remote and difficult, but the planet also reflects a deliberate continuity choice. StarWars.com reports that earlier versions of the story placed Kelnacca on Kashyyyk; the creators chose Khofar to explore a different corner of the galaxy. That is production context, not an in-universe explanation for Kelnacca’s location.
Rank #4
The episode also introduces Bazil, a Tynnan tracker. StarWars.com notes that the species first appeared in the 1979 novel Han Solo’s Revenge. The mission robes, the same article says, drew inspiration from High Republic books and comics. These details connect the episode’s visual world to earlier Star Wars storytelling without changing the central stakes of the search.
