Jacob Elordi’s creature is the unsettlingly handsome focus of a first-look report on Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. The description comes from footage screened to journalists in January 2025—not from a publicly released scene or a review of the finished film.
Where the headline came from
Germain Lussier’s January 30, 2025, Gizmodo report described footage shown to journalists at Netflix’s 2025 preview event in Los Angeles. Its “monstrously hot” hook is a playful reaction to Elordi’s appearance as the creature, not a measured audience response.
What the preview footage reportedly showed
Frankenstein’s laboratory
The report describes a period setting with elaborate costumes and a laboratory where Dr. Frankenstein, played by Oscar Isaac, assembles a body from corpses. In the account, the lab contains green-colored power sources and the body has metal ribs around a cylindrical red energy source. A storm follows, and Frankenstein believes the experiment has failed. These are details reported from the screened footage, not independently confirmed specifications of the production design.
Elordi as the creature
The creature appears over Frankenstein’s bed. Lussier describes Elordi as tall and lanky beneath makeup, with lines across his body and a scar-like cut running from the upper-right side of his head at an angle toward the area above his left eye. The footage account also mentions the creature looking at photographs, trying to woo Mia Goth’s character, and walking in snow.

Who is in del Toro’s Frankenstein?
The Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel stars Jacob Elordi as the creature and Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein, with Mia Goth also among the cast. The preview account says Christoph Waltz’s character agrees to fund Frankenstein’s research. Those character and plot details describe what the report says appeared in the preview; they are not a complete account of the film.
When did the film come out?
The January 2025 article projected a November release on Netflix, but that was a forecast, not the final release chronology. A later Frankentime episode listing gives October 17, 2025, as the date of a limited theatrical release and lists a film review/reaction episode published November 14, 2025. The podcast listing provides later context, not an official Netflix release notice. Neither cited source establishes the film’s current Netflix availability in any particular country as of October 8, 2026.

Why the creature’s look caught attention
The first-look report’s appeal is the contrast between a familiar horror premise and a creature presented with striking physical presence: lanky, scarred, and carefully made up rather than described simply as a grotesque figure. That impression is specific to the journalist’s account of a short preview. It should not be mistaken for a complete view of the creature’s design across the film.
The story is an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Reading the source novel offers a way to encounter the story behind the film, though the report does not specify which edition or how closely the finished adaptation follows the book.
