Start with the theme
The puzzle’s theme clue is “Open-and-shut case.” Think of the kind of item that might fit that description before revealing more.
Get a nudge without seeing the answers
These six words unlock the in-game hint system when found in the grid. They are not the theme answers:
- BEAR
- SEAL
- REAR
- HALF
- BOSS
- BAKE
For general context, Strands is a themed word search: finding three words unrelated to the theme can unlock a hint that highlights letters in a theme word. Each puzzle also has a spangram, which describes the theme and connects two opposite edges of the grid. Tom’s Guide explains the game’s basics.

Spangram hint and route
The spangram clue is “On-the-go storage.” If you need help locating it, its path starts at the left edge in row 5 and ends at the right edge in row 3.
