The Sports Edition is the sports-focused version of the daily Connections word puzzle, created through a partnership between The New York Times and The Athletic. Players sort 16 words into four groups of four. Parade describes the task as grouping sports terms that share a common thread.

Why the puzzle number is unclear
The date-specific answers match across Parade and Mashable, but the two pages give different puzzle numbers: Parade labels it #246, while Mashable calls it #245. The date and answer set identify the puzzle without relying on a number.

How Connections: Sports Edition works
Each daily grid contains 16 words to divide into four groups of four. The puzzle resets at midnight Eastern Time, according to Parade’s description. The May 27 grid combines ordinary speed synonyms with chess terms, NBA nicknames, and words that form phrases with “play.”
