The date and puzzle number in “NYT Connections: Sports Edition hints and answers for December 21” do not line up in the available records. A community discussion associates #453 with December 20, 2025 and #454 with December 21, 2025, while a separate answer page labels #453 as December 21, 2026. The groups below are therefore provisional, not a verified answer key for a December 21 edition.
First, check the date and puzzle number
If you came looking for Connections: Sports Edition puzzle #453, the available records conflict about when it appeared. The Slowtwitch community discussion reports #453 for December 20, 2025, followed by #454 on December 21, 2025. A third-party NASA20 answer page lists #453 under December 21, 2026.
Neither source is an authoritative NYT archive, and the official game record could not be confirmed. If you need the exact December 21 board, verify the year and puzzle number in the game before relying on the answers below.

- Start with a concrete category. Look for obvious equipment, teams, players, venues, or sports terms.
- Test the relationship, not just the vocabulary. Four words can all be sports-related without belonging to the same intended group. Ask what precise link fits all four.
- Rearrange the board. Moving words can help reveal a connection you missed, or show that a tempting category is too broad.
- Use the colors as a rough difficulty signal. If an apparent group feels straightforward, it may be an easier category; reserve less obvious wordplay or phrase completions for later.
