Blumhouse premiered the first full trailer for Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man at its New York Comic Con panel on Friday, October 18, 2024. The preview follows a family retreating to a rural Oregon home after an animal attack, while the injured father begins to change. At the time, the film was scheduled to open in theaters on January 17, 2025.
What the Wolf Man trailer shows
Universal’s synopsis sets the story around Blake, his wife Charlotte, and their daughter Ginger. Blake takes his family to his childhood home in rural Oregon. After an animal attack, they barricade themselves inside while an unseen creature prowls outside. Blake’s injuries worsen, and his behavior becomes increasingly monstrous, leaving Charlotte to confront danger both beyond the house and within it. Universal’s film page
Contemporary coverage described the trailer as emphasizing isolation and a gradual transformation. The resulting uncertainty—whether the more immediate threat is the creature outside or Blake’s change inside—is an interpretation of the preview, not a separately confirmed plot detail. Gizmodo and SYFY both reported on the trailer.
Who made the film
Leigh Whannell directed and co-wrote Wolf Man with Corbett Tuck. Universal lists Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger, Matilda Firth, and Benedict Hardie among the cast. Universal’s film page

Whannell’s disease theme
At NYCC, Whannell connected the monster story to illness and gradual change. In an October 22, 2024 interview with Rue Morgue, he said: “Without spoiling anything, I felt like disease–degenerative disease–was the best theme to wrap this movie around.” Rue Morgue’s interview
SYFY reported a longer version of his comment, in which he said terminal or degenerative illness seemed to dovetail with the Wolf Man story. These remarks describe Whannell’s thematic approach; they are not additional plot details. SYFY’s NYCC coverage
