“Liquified my eyeballs” is comic hyperbole, not a report of an actual injury. In Rob Bricken’s August 30, 2022, Gizmodo reaction, it describes the sensory overload of a new, NSFW Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer: vivid animation and extreme violence, with little plot revealed, in the author’s view. What the “liquified my eyeballs” headline means
Bricken’s headline turns the trailer’s intense visuals into a joke about being overwhelmed. The article characterizes the trailer as NSFW and extremely violent, and singles out its vivid, forceful animation. Its assessment that the trailer reveals little about the plot is a reviewer’s impression—not Netflix’s description of the series.

What the anime is about
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a standalone, 10-episode anime set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Netflix’s premise centers on a street kid trying to survive in Night City, a future city shaped by technology and body modification. To stay alive, the protagonist becomes an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw, also known as a cyberpunk.

That premise gives the viewer more story context than the trailer reaction’s description of what the preview showed. Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED announced the standalone series in 2020 as a story in the same universe as the then-upcoming game. CD PROJEKT RED produced it with Studio Trigger as animation studio; Hiroyuki Imaishi directed, and Akira Yamaoka composed the original score. CD PROJEKT RED’s Adam Badowski called it “our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form.” Netflix’s project announcement and Netflix Media Center’s series information provide the official background and credits.
When it premiered—and what Netflix lists now
Netflix Media Center lists September 13, 2022, as the US release date for the first season, at 7:00 AM GMT. The August 30 trailer reaction appeared before that premiere. Netflix Media Center.
Netflix’s watch page currently lists the 2022 anime as 10 episodes and includes teaser entries for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The retrieved page does not give a release date for the follow-up, so the teaser listings are not evidence of a scheduled premiere. Netflix catalog availability and age ratings can vary by region. Check Netflix’s listing for the page available in your locale.

No prerequisite is stated in Netflix’s description: the anime is presented as a standalone story in the game’s universe. Knowing the game may provide franchise context, but the available official synopsis does not say that playing it is necessary to follow the series.
