Boss Fight’s current company history says it is “now back to operating independently in 2026.” The official sources reviewed do not explain when or on what terms that change happened.
What Netflix announced in 2022
Netflix said Boss Fight would strengthen its in-house game development team as the streaming company expanded its games catalog. The announcement described the studio’s experience across game genres as a way to help Netflix make games for members. Netflix’s announcement, published March 24, 2022, identified Boss Fight’s founders as David Rippy, CEO; Bill Jackson, CCO; and Scott Winsett, COO. The studio was founded in 2013 and headquartered in Allen, Texas; Netflix said its team would continue operating from studios in Allen (Dallas), Austin, and Seattle.
Netflix Games executive Amir Rahimi said the studio’s experience building games across genres would help Netflix provide members with games wherever they wanted to play. Boss Fight’s founders described their own mission as bringing “simple, beautiful, and fun game experiences” to players, and said Netflix’s subscription-based, ad-free games model let developers focus on gameplay without worrying about monetization.
How the deal fit Netflix’s games strategy
In its Q2 2022 shareholder letter, dated July 19, 2022, Netflix listed Boss Fight Studios alongside Night School Studios and Next Games. The company said these acquisitions added expertise in multiple geographies and expanded its internal development capacity. That provides context for Netflix’s stated rationale, but does not establish the price paid for Boss Fight or how the acquisition performed.

What happened to Boss Fight after the acquisition?
Boss Fight Entertainment’s current official company history describes the studio as “Originally founded in 2013, acquired by Netflix in 2022, and now back to operating independently in 2026.” That wording indicates Boss Fight considers itself independent again. It does not give the date or terms of the separation, or say whether Netflix retains any rights or interests.
The studio’s updates page records founder Bill Jackson appearing on a Netflix Games panel on March 19, 2025, as well as studio and game updates from 2024. Those entries document a public connection at the time; they do not establish who owned the studio in 2025 or explain its later return to independent operation.
