Spoilers: The date points to Sunday, March 22, 2026. NYT Pips has separate Easy, Medium and Hard boards, so there is more than one answer. The Easy and Hard walkthroughs below identify dominoes by the regions they cover, not by grid coordinates. The available text does not establish a complete Medium placement sequence.
How the March 22 Pips answers are organized
Pips asks you to place every available domino on adjacent cells while satisfying the conditions shown for colored regions. A domino can cross a border: each pip then counts toward the rule for the region containing that half. The rules can require a precise total, equal or distinct values, a value above or below a threshold, or no condition in an uncolored space. Easy answer
Technobezz’s March 22 walkthrough gives these placements by domino values, orientation and region. It does not provide row-and-column coordinates, so use the region labels on your board to locate them.
- Place 6/0 vertically in the purple region requiring 6.
- Place 5/5 vertically in the teal region requiring 5.
- Place 2/3 horizontally in the navy region requiring 2.
- Place 1/3 vertically in the equal-value region.
- Place 6/4 vertically across the orange region requiring 5 and the pink region requiring 6.
Medium answer
The March 22 Medium board’s conditions include less than 4, greater than 4, equality and less than 2. The available answer rendering does not preserve a complete coordinate layout or placement sequence, so it is not enough to give a reliable full solution. The dated Pips Hint page identifies those conditions; avoid treating a partial transcription as a complete answer.

Hard answer
Technobezz lists 15 dominoes for Hard by the values and regions they cover. The placements below are region descriptions, not grid coordinates; each domino must cover adjacent cells, and all dominoes must be used.
- 2/2 across the purple-2 and pink-2 regions.
- 3/3 across the pink-3 and teal-3 regions.
- 2/4 across the orange-2 and navy-4 regions.
- 0/3 across the navy-0 and green-3 regions.
- 4/3 across the green-4 and purple-3 regions.
- 1/0 in the orange-0 region.
- 3/1 in the teal-3 region.
- 0/2 across the navy-0 and green-2 regions.
- 0/0 across the green-0 and purple-0 regions.
- 1/4 in the pink-4 region.
- 1/1 in the uncolored region.
- 2/3 across the pink-2 and orange-3 regions.
- 0/4 across the navy-0 and teal-4 regions.
- 2/1 in the orange-2 region.
- 4/4 across the navy-4 and green-4 regions.
How to approach the Hard board
The dated walkthroughs suggest beginning with shared regions constrained to 2, then using the several zero-pip regions to narrow down where low-value domino ends can go. When a tile crosses a border, check each half against the rule for its own region; a fit in one region does not guarantee the other half is valid. These are solving suggestions, not additional coordinates. The published Hard list is in Technobezz’s dated walkthrough; Pips Hint also describes the rules.

Why Pips puzzles can be difficult to solve
A 2026 paper by Alberti, Chierichetti, Giacchini, Muscillo, Panconesi and Tani models Pips as placing dominoes on a board divided into connected regions with numerical constraints, and proves that the generalized decision problem is NP-complete. That is a result about the computational complexity of the generalized problem; it does not mean every daily board is impractical to solve by hand. The paper is published by Dagstuhl.
