Shota Aizawa is more than the exhausted-looking teacher of U.A.’s Class 1-A: he is a Pro Hero whose Erasure Quirk and capture cloth work together, but both have limits. Here are 15 details about Eraser Head, with manga spoilers clearly marked where the information reaches beyond his basic role.
Who is Mr. Aizawa?
1. His hero name is Eraser Head
Aizawa’s full hero title is the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head. The name is attributed to his classmate Present Mic, who gave it to him when they were students, according to the My Hero Academia Wiki and the secondary character page at animeMANGA.
2. He is both a Pro Hero and a teacher
Aizawa works as a Pro Hero while teaching U.A. High School’s Class 1-A. Bandai Namco’s official character announcement describes him in both roles, making clear that his classroom work is not separate from his hero identity: Bandai Namco’s MY HERO ONE’S JUSTICE announcement.
3. His birthday is November 8
The character profile lists Aizawa’s birthday as November 8 and his height as 183 cm. These are profile details, rather than clues to his Quirk or place in the story.

4. His age depends on the point in the story
The character reference gives different ages across the timeline: 30 through the School Festival Arc, 31 before the timeskip, and 39 in the current profile. An age without its timeline can therefore be misleading.
5. Cats are his stated favorite
Aizawa’s Volume 1 character profile says he likes cats—a quiet contrast to the severe image he projects at school.

What does Aizawa’s Quirk do?
6. Erasure stops another person’s Quirk through his gaze
Erasure lets Aizawa nullify another person’s powers by looking at them. Bandai Namco’s official announcement summarizes the ability as nullifying powers just by looking; the more detailed limitations below are reported in the character reference.
7. Blinking interrupts the effect
According to the character reference, Aizawa must keep his eyes open to maintain Erasure. A blink interrupts its use, making the ability dependent on an ongoing physical effort rather than a permanent shutdown.

8. Prolonged use causes dry eye
The same reference says extended use dries out Aizawa’s eyes. His Quirk’s practical cost reinforces that maintaining a gaze is a real constraint during a fight, not just a visual flourish.
9. Most Mutant-type Quirks are not erased
Erasure does not work on most Mutant-type Quirks, according to the character reference. That distinction matters: nullifying a power is not the same as removing a body trait that is part of a person’s physical form.

How do his goggles and capture cloth help?
10. His yellow goggles conceal who he is targeting
Aizawa’s goggles obscure his line of sight, making it harder for opponents to tell whom he is watching. That helps mask the target of Erasure in a fight.
11. His “scarf” is a specialized capture weapon
The long cloth often associated with Aizawa is identified in the character reference as a Capturing Weapon, also called a Binding Cloth. It is described as steel wire alloy woven with carbon nanofibers and used to restrain opponents.

12. The cloth complements rather than replaces Erasure
Erasure limits an opponent’s ability; the capture cloth gives Aizawa a way to physically control them. Used together, the tools let him disrupt a Quirk and restrain its user without relying on either method alone.
What do Aizawa’s character-book ratings say?
13. Ultra Archive gives him a top Technique rating
The character reference records these ratings in Ultra Archive. The scale runs to five except for Technique, which is rated six out of five:
| Category | Ultra Archive rating |
|---|---|
| Power | 3/5 (C) |
| Speed | 4/5 (B) |
| Technique | 6/5 (S) |
| Intelligence | 4/5 (B) |
| Cooperativeness | 3/5 (C) |
14. Ultra Analysis uses a different scale and adds Dry Eye
The Ultra Analysis profile uses a six-point scale and different category labels. Its ratings should be read as a separate book profile, not as a correction to Ultra Archive:
| Category | Ultra Analysis rating |
|---|---|
| Power | 3/6 (C) |
| Speed | 4/6 (B+) |
| Technique | 6/6 (S+) |
| Wits | 5/6 (A+) |
| Dry Eye | 6/6 (S) |
Manga spoilers: what shaped his teaching?
15. The loss of Oboro Shirakumo informs his outlook
Spoiler warning: manga backstory. The character reference connects the death of Aizawa’s close friend Oboro Shirakumo to Aizawa’s strict, survival-focused approach as a teacher. It is a personal loss behind his hard-edged standards, not simply a matter of classroom temperament. The scene-level details are not established here, so this point is best kept to that broad connection.
